About Mocktail Glasses

Lowball vs goblet vs balloon for a mocktail, which to pick

  • Lowball (9 to 13 oz, heavy base): for anything shaken or stirred, a zero-proof gimlet, an espresso no-tini, a shrub over ice. One large cube keeps a 3 to 4 oz build cold with slow dilution, and the wide rim takes a garnish. This is the glass a coupe cannot be: room for ice and weight in the hand.
  • Goblet or spritz goblet (10 to 17 oz, stemmed): for spritzes, sparkling serves and iced tea builds, an aperitivo spritz without the Aperol, alcohol-free sparkling wine with fruit, a Hugo with elderflower and mint. The stem keeps a warm hand off the bowl; the bowl holds the ice.
  • Copa de Balon or balloon (21 to 25 oz, stemmed): for tonic drinks with big ice and botanical garnish, a zero-proof gin and tonic, a cucumber and rosemary tonic, a tall virgin mojito over plenty of ice.
  • Highball (12 to 14 oz): for the fizz-forward builds, ginger beer and lime, a zero-proof paloma. Tall keeps the bubbles. Our highballs are between runs; a 21 to 25 oz balloon over ice does the same job until they return.

Verdict: one lowball set and one goblet or balloon set cover almost every mocktail. Coupes and flutes are built for spirit-forward and sparkling pours with no ice; most mocktails are mostly mixer and ice, so they belong in the bigger, heavier glasses.

Which set for which non-alcoholic drink

Several of these sets are dishwasher safe per the maker's marking; where unmarked, hand washing is the gentle default. Every set ships in a fitted gift box with a recipe printed on the lid.

Pair with our spritz glasses for the aperitivo hour, our gin and tonic balloons for the Spanish serve, our lowball glasses for drinks over one large cube, or our cocktail party glassware when the guest list is mixed.

Serve a mocktail in a lowball over one large ice cube for shaken and stirred builds, a stemmed goblet or spritz glass for spritzes and sparkling serves, and a Copa de Balon balloon for tonic with big ice and garnish. Most mocktails are mostly mixer and ice, so they want the heavy base and wide rim of a lowball or the room of a goblet, not a small coupe.

No. Mocktail glasses are the same lowballs, goblets and balloons a bar uses for long drinks; the only difference is what goes in them. Novelty mocktail glasses age badly and mark the non-drinker out at the table. Using the same crystal for every guest is the better rule.

A non-alcoholic spritz needs a stemmed goblet or balloon of 12 oz or more, filled with ice first, so the bitter aperitivo, soda and orange slice have room. Our spritz goblet holds 15 oz, the Venice goblet 17 oz and the Copa de Balon 25 oz.

Yes, and for shaken or stirred zero-proof drinks the lowball is the best choice. One large cube keeps a 3 to 4 oz build cold with slow dilution, the heavy base sits well in the hand, and the wide rim carries garnish. A 9 oz Art Deco lowball covers a zero-proof gimlet, an espresso no-tini and a shrub over ice.

Every set here does. A 9 oz lowball, a 15 oz spritz goblet, a 17 oz Venice goblet and a 25 oz Copa de Balon cover an old fashioned and a zero-proof shrub, an Aperol spritz and its alcohol-free twin, a gin and tonic and a botanical tonic, in the same glass.
